Day 4 - Universal Orlando Resort: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter

by - July 01, 2017

Day 4 of our trip we went for a side trip to Universal Orlando Resort. We were short on time so we only spent one day here and only visiting the Harry Potter Attractions - Just in time for the books' 20th Anniversary!

We started the day at Universal's Island of Adventure where the Hogward's castle and Hogsmeade village is located. As we walked through the arch into the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, it was like stepping into another world. The set and backdrops are very similar to those in the movies. It was very cute how there are moving photos on random bulletin boards around the park and in the castle. It's really too bad they didn't incorporate the moving stairs in the castle. I thought it would have been a very cool addition to make it appear even more enchanted than it already is. Lack of space I suppose! I found it a bit odd that the rooftops of Hogsmeade are covered in snow. Although I understand that is how it's like when Harry visits the village in the series, the weather was so warm and made the snow seemed a little out of place. Regardless, I finally got to try the infamous butter beer! A bit too sweet to my liking but hey! I guess that's how the wizards and witches like it.

The Ollivanders was an entertaining experience where there was a small show of how to pick a wand, just like Harry did when he first stepped into the wizarding world. It then leads into the gift shop where you can actually purchase wands and other merchandises. I couldn't resist the temptation. I bought a wand - an interactive one. There are many spots around Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley where you can use these wands to "cast magic". You can make things move, silence them, turning lights on and off, etc. It was so much fun! I got to practice all my swish and flick there.

When we finished, we took the Hogwards Express to Universal Studios Florida, another park of the resort where Diagon Alley is. During the ride, we could look out the "window" for the view of the British countryside and the Hogwards castle moving away from us. Harry, Hermione and Ron's shadows lingered just outside our cabin door interacting with one another. It was a short but interesting ride!

Once we get off our train, we were at Diagon Alley. We stopped by Leaky Cauldron had our wizards' and witches' lunch. I had to try the pumpkin juice and enjoy the enchanted environment! There are many gift shops at Diagon Alley. We spent most of our time playing with our wands at the designated magic casting spots.

For a day full of magic, I picked a hand-dyed shirt with colors changing from white to pink to purple. I've always thought hand-dying technique is like magic. You turn a plain ordinary shirt into something beautiful. It's an art on its own. I originally planned to wear this shirt with the denim skirt from the last post, but since the outfit changes, I chose to pair it with a cotton flare skirt instead. The super soft material of both pieces made them very comfortable for the day-long wear. Sandals were my footwear as my sneakers got wet from a water ride the day before and didn't dry in time. They were very suitable for the hot weather. There was less walking so my feet were still good at the end of the day! Finishing the look again with my gold chain emerald stone necklace and bangles for the minimal but chic glam.

We wished we had more time to explore the rest of Universal Orlando resort but one day was all we have. We will definitely allocate more time here for our next visit! Do you think my outfit fit the Harry Potter theme? Have you been to Universal Orlando Resort? Share your experience with me in the comments below! Next up, last of the series - back to Walt Disney World - Epcot! *sad face*
